Metadata: Menai Strait Sublittoral Survey 1982 (Paper Data)
Abstract:
This dataset consists of the result of a sublittoral survey carried out in the Menai Strait during 1982 to investigate the habitats and communities present. The dataset contains site descriptions (name, location, depths surveyed, site features etc), lists of all algae and animal species observed and habitat data. The purpose of this data capture was to investigate the sublittoral ecosystems of the Menai Strait and to determine the range and distribution of habitats and communities present within the Menai Strait and on adjacent open coasts. Original survey forms are held by NRW, mobilised data is available through the JNCC distributed Marine Recorder snapshot

Dives were usually made at low water to improve visibility and dive duration. Most of the survey recording was done by two divers with the assistance of several divers who provided essential back up acting as dive partners or photographers. Detailed in-situ records were made on the habitat, algal and animal communities found using pre-determined scales of abundance. Specimens were taken when in-situ identification could not be made and collections of algae were taken at most sites. Checklists were completed as soon as possible after diving and the habitats were recorded on habitat forms. Photographs were taken of the range of habitat types, communities and species observed. |
